For us Catholics, today is a very special day. It is the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of Mary, the Mother of God. Long story short...
Anywho, everyone knows that Mary is closely tied to Christmas - because, after all, Christmas is Jesus' birthday. So for today's blog hop, I share with you a song that's well-known in the Catholic world.
This post isn't meant to start a debate about our beliefs - so please, I'd appreciate kind comments only. Thank you.
"We declare, pronounce, and define that the doctrine which holds that the most Blessed Virgin Mary, in the first instance of her conception, by a singular grace and privilege granted by Almighty God, in view of the merits of Jesus Christ, the Savior of the human race, was preserved free from all stain of original sin, is a doctrine revealed by God and therefore to be believed firmly and constantly by all the faithful." (click here for a more detailed explanation)To be clear, we do NOT worship Mary. Just as you would honor the mother of a king, so we honor Mary because Christ is Our King. Yes, we can pray directly to God. But hey, asking His mom for a little intercession couldn't hurt - which is what we Catholics are actually doing!
